U.S. Consumer Sentiment Shows Modest Improvement In February

(RTTNews) - Consumer sentiment in the U.S. saw a modest improvement in the month of February, according to a report released by Thomson Reuters and the University of Michigan on Friday.

The report showed that the consumer sentiment index for February was upwardly revised to 81.6 from the preliminary reading of 81.2.

With the upward revision, the index came in modestly above January's final reading of 81.2 as well as economist estimates of 81.5.

The barometer of current economic conditions for February was upwardly revised to 95.4 from 94.0 but remained below the 96.8 reported for January.

Meanwhile, the gauge of consumer expectations for February was downwardly revised to 72.7 from 73.0. The reading still came in above January's 71.2.

On the inflation front, one-year inflation expectations climbed to 3.2 percent in February from 3.1 percent in January, while the five-to-ten-year inflation outlook held steady at 2.9 percent.
