PERU: Court Extends Former President Toledo's Asset Freeze
(RTTNews) - A Peruvian court rejected an appeal presented by Alejandro Toledo's defense and confirmed an initial decision to extend the freezing of the former president's funds for six months.
Toledo, who is under investigation for money laundering, has 150,053 soles (US$ 45,600) and US$ 930 in total in his bank accounts.
On March 1, Alejandro Toledo's lawyers appealed from a previous decision to freeze the former president's assets for allegedly violating the due process. The decision says that the extended deadline for the asset freeze "satisfies the established legal rules and therefore the appeal should be rejected."
