New Zealand Has NZ$976 Million Trade Shortfall

(RTTNews) - New Zealand posted a merchandise trade deficit of NZ$976 million in January, Statistics New Zealand said on Thursday.

That missed expectations for a shortfall of NZ$200 million following the downwardly revised NZ$368 million in December (originally -NZ$323 million).

Exports were worth NZ$4.93 billion, down from the downwardly revised NZ$5.85 billion in the previous month (originally NZ$5.94 billion).

Imports came in at NZ$5.91 billion, down from the downwardly revised NZ$6.22 billion a month earlier (originally NZ$6.26 billion).

In the year to January, the trade deficit was NZ$12.50 billion.
