(RTTNews) - Mexico retail sales growth improved for a second straight month in January, exceeding economists' expectations, data from the statistical office INEGI showed Friday.

Retail sales rose 4.7 percent year-on-year following 2.4 percent gain in December. Economists had expected 3 percent growth.

The latest sales growth figure was the strongest since October, when sales increased 5.6 percent.

Wholesale sales grew 2.2 percent annually in January after a 5 percent jump in the previous month. It was second consecutive month of increase.
