India's CPI Inflation Rises To 9.87% In June
(RTTNews) - India's consumer price inflation increased in June, driven mainly by a marked gain in food prices, preliminary data released by the Central Statistics Office showed Friday.
Headline inflation as per the consumer price index (CPI) moved up to 9.87 percent in June from 9.31 percent in May.
The inflation rate for the rural areas rose to 9.63 percent from 8.98 percent in the previous month, while the rate for urban areas advanced to 10.13 percent from 9.65 percent.
Driving the acceleration in the overall price growth, food and beverages prices climbed 11.84 percent from a year earlier. Costs of fuel and electricity were higher by 8.72 percent than a year earlier, and clothing and footwear prices advanced 9.71 percent.
