Hong Kong Jobless Rate Rises To 3.2%

(RTTNews) - Hong Kong's unemployment rate increased slightly in the December to February period, labor force statistics from the Census and Statistics Department showed on Tuesday.

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate came in at 3.2 percent for December to February, up from 3.1 percent in the November-January period.

The data showed that the underemployment rate remained stable at 1.1 percent.

Without adjustment, the unemployment rate held steady at 2.9 percent. The number of unemployed persons was 111,700, compared to 110,100 in the November-January period.

"The labor market should remain largely stable in the near term amidst continued economic expansion, though some businesses would be affected by the uncertainties stemming from the United States' trade protection measures," Chris Sun, the secretary for labor and welfare, said.
