COLOMBIA: Government Seeks New Headquarters For Peace Talks With The ELN
(RTTNews) - The Colombian government will take the necessary steps to find a new headquarters for the peace talks with the National Liberation Army (ELN) guerrilla group after the Ecuadorean government decided to quit as guarantor of the talks, which took place in the country since February 2017.
"The government should initiate the procedures to transfer the peace talks to one of those countries that previously established themselves as alternative headquarters," said Colombian Foreign Minister Maria Angela Holguin in a statement.
The Colombian Foreign Minister added that the parties had decided that "the talks would be held in different countries in an itinerant manner," although she did not specify the alternatives to go ahead with the peace talks.
The president of Ecuador, Lenin Moreno, announced that his country is no longer guarantor of the peace process between Colombia and the ELN "until the guerrillas stop their terrorist activities."
The decision was taken on Tuesday after reports on the murder of a group of journalists of the El Comercio newspaper and the kidnapping of two civilians by a FARC's dissent.
