CHILE: Consumer Prices Rise 1.5% In September, Lowest Level Since May 2013
(RTTNews) - Chile's Consumer Price Index (CPI) decelerated to 1.5% in September on an annual comparison, from 1.9% in August, reaching the lowest yearly variation since May 2013, said the country's statistics office. The annual inflation rate in Chile is currently below the bottom of the country's central bank target range of 2% to 4%.
The rise in the annual inflation rate in September was primarily due to the increase in prices of alcoholic beverages, education, and restaurants and hotels.
On a monthly basis, consumer prices in Chile decreased by 0.2% in September when compared to August, surprising economists, who expected a 0.3% rise.
The underlying index, which excludes food and energy prices, rose 1.8% in September on a yearly comparison while remained stable against August.
