BRAZIL: President Expects Senate To Vote On Pension Reform In February

(RTTNews) - Brazilian President Michel Temer spoke about the expectation of a Senate floor vote on the pension reform bill in February.

Speaking at the 22nd Annual Meeting of the Chemical Industry (ENAIQ) in São Paulo, Temer called lawmakers to support the pension reform.

"It's only natural that they are worried, but without their support, the reform does not move ahead, and it's for the good of the country that we want to do it," said Temer, who also asks for support from society.

The president pointed out that the pension reform "is a kind of outcome of every reform movement" that his government did.

"We face and are facing controversial issues with a lot of stamina and that is why they were approved. Social security is the end of the reform movement that we started a year ago," he said.

Temer criticized those who make a speech against reform and denied that the changes should affect workers.

"Those who are against the reform is in favor of privileges. The worker who earns a salary, a minimum wage and is in the private sector, will not be hit by the reform. The reform will hit, mainly, the public servant," Temer said.
