Edison Mission Group Adds Texas Wind Energy Project to Its Renewable Portfolio
EMG purchased the project from Cielo Wind Power, LP, a leadingTexas-based, wind generation developer, which will retain a minorityinterest. Upon completion of construction, the electricity produced byWildorado will be sold to Southwestern Public Service, a subsidiary ofXcel Energy, under a long-term power purchase agreement.
"Edison Mission Group continues to build a significant wind energyportfolio across the country," said EMG CEO Ted Craver. "The Wildoradoproject will provide Texas with a valuable new source ofenvironmentally friendly electricity. In this time of rising energycosts, it is especially important that we develop both new capacityand more diversity in our energy supply."
The project will include 70 turbines. Construction will begin inthe spring of 2006, with commercial operations expected in early 2007.
With the acquisition of Wildorado, EMG has a national windportfolio of 477 megawatts (MW) at 10 sites in Iowa, Minnesota, NewMexico and Texas. In addition, EMG is working with local developers topermit a 90 MW project in Maine, and has entered into a jointdevelopment agreement that is expected to result in several newprojects with Midwest Wind Energy of Chicago.
