Sumitomo Life Insurance Company -- Moody's affirms A1 IFSR and A3(hyb) of Sumitomo Life; outlook stable

Tokyo, August 12, 2015 -- Moody's Japan K.K. has affirmed the A1 insurance financial strength rating (IFSR) and A3 (hyb) subordinated bond rating of Sumitomo Life Insurance Company (Sumitomo Life) after the company's announcement of its planned 100% acquisition of Symetra Financial Corporation (Symetra Financial). The transaction is expected to close by the end of first quarter or early in the second quarter in 2016 subject to approvals by regulatory agencies and the Symetra Financial's shareholders' meeting. Moody's will comment on Symetra Financial's ratings separately.
