Yonge Subway Extension Gets the Green Light
RICHMOND HILL, ON, April 10, 2019 /CNW/ - Today, Premier Doug Ford announced a $28.5 billion funding commitment to expand Ontario's transit network. As part of this commitment, the Province will invest $5.6 billion to build the Yonge Subway Extension (YSE) north to Richmond Hill. The YSE will be built in conjunction with the downtown relief line (now called the Ontario Line).
"We're thrilled to see this vital project finally becoming a reality," said Mayor Dave Barrow. "The Yonge Subway Extension (YSE) will close the missing link to bus rapid transit along Highway 7 and Yonge Street. It will connect our communities providing commuters across the GTA with a variety of transit options to move throughout the Region, opening up countless job opportunities and helping to alleviate traffic congestion."
The YSE will extend 7.4 kilometres north from Finch Station in Toronto to Richmond Hill Centre and includes five new stops.
"We've been advocating for this critical connection in our transit network for years," added Mayor Barrow. "The YSE will be a huge benefit to the residents of Richmond Hill."
When fully operational, the Yonge Subway Extension will:
