Yahoo Wins Rights To NFL's First Internet Only Game
(RTTNews) - Yahoo Inc has won exclusive rights to the National Football League's first Internet-only broadcast of a football game between the Buffalo Bills and Jacksonville Jaguars that will be played in London on Sunday, October 25.
Yahoo will provide free live-streaming video of the NFL's International Series game on all of its digital platforms, whether that is in a Web browser, within a Yahoo app on a mobile phone or on a television with a streaming device.
Neither Yahoo nor NFL disclosed the financial terms of the deal.
The announcement marks a perceptible shift in NFL's broadcast strategy, which has until now broadcast its regular season games on network television or a cable channel.
Meanwhile, for Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer, the live streaming of the football game is part of efforts to boost digital advertising revenue at a time of sagging search and display ads.
