Waste Connections Profit Rises, Revenue Misses

(RTTNews) - Waste Connections Inc (WCN), a solid waste services company, on Monday reported first-quarter net earnings of $50.8 million or $0.42 per share compared with $49 million or $0.39 per share last year.

Excluding items, adjusted earnings for the quarter were $0.46 per share compared with $0.44 per share a year ago.

Revenues for the quarter were $506 million compared with $481.7 million in the prior year.

Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters estimated earnings of $0.46 per share on revenues of $508.9 million for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.

"We are particularly pleased with these results in the period in light of difficult weather conditions experienced in certain markets, lower than expected recycled commodity values...," said CEO Ronald Mittelstaedt.
