Washington Reagan Flight 1531 Selected for the American Airlines AAdvantage Program 42 Million Mile Anniversary Giveaway
FORT WORTH, Texas, May 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- American Airlines through its AAdvantage(R) Travel Awards program and MasterCard International surprised travelers on American Airlines flight 1531 departing from Washington Reagan to Dallas/Fort Worth today by giving each passenger on board 25,000 American Airlines AAdvantage miles in celebration of the 25th Anniversary of the AAdvantage program. This Washington Reagan Celebration Flight is one of 10 American and American Eagle flights selected for a total giveaway of up to 42 million AAdvantage miles nationwide.
Each passenger on board the 10 Celebration Flights today is being awarded 25,000 AAdvantage miles -- enough miles for an Economy Class round-trip award ticket within the continental U.S., Alaska and Canada.* In the case of flight 1531 out of Washington Reagan National Airport, approximately 148 passengers onboard the aircraft each received 25,000 AAdvantage miles and other promotional items.
In total, nearly 1,700 lucky passengers will be surprised today with gate- area announcements of the 10 market giveaways about 30 minutes prior to each flight's departure.
"Washington, D.C. is a key market for us so we wanted to do something big to thank our customers and kick off our 25th Anniversary celebration," said Kurt Stache, American's President of AAdvantage Marketing Programs. "The Celebration Flights, which MasterCard has officially sponsored, are just one of the many ways we plan to celebrate the anniversary and the loyalty of our members over the next 25 days in May."
The AAdvantage multi-million mile giveaway coincides with today's launch of an innovative and unprecedented "25 Deals in 25 Days" promotion. Today and each day through May 25, AAdvantage members can participate in new and unique special offers and incredible sweepstakes with prizes that will appeal to many members. In fact, American is kicking off the promotion by taking 25 percent off the miles required for select MileSAAver(SM) awards. This is valid for award travel booked and ticketed between May 1 and May 31, 2006, for travel from Aug. 22, 2006, to Nov. 8, 2006. For details on the deal each day, visit http://www.aadvantage25.com/ or http://www.aa.com/25 .
The AAdvantage program began on May 1, 1981, with about 300,000 members. Today, the industry's first frequent flyer program has grown to be the largest and best program with more than 50 million members. The AAdvantage program also enjoys independent, third-party recognition and validation. In October 2005, Consumer Reports magazine rated the AAdvantage program the best frequent-flyer program for coach award seat availability without paying extra miles for travel within the continental U.S. and to Hawaii.
