VIA Rail services between Winnipeg and Gillam remain suspended
MONTREAL, July 10, 2018 /CNW Telbec/ - Heavy rains in recent weeks in the Wabowden, Manitoba area (between The Pas and Thompson) have caused water levels to rise in certain areas. VIA Rail Canada (VIA Rail) has been advised by the host railway that the Thicket Subdivision in northern Manitoba is closed until the situation has been re-established. The Company is thus forced to maintain the suspension of its services between Winnipeg and Gillam for a few days. Passenger train services will resume between Winnipeg and Gillam when it is safe to do so.
The following trains are cancelled:
Northbound |
Wednesday, July 11 between Winnipeg and Gillam (train #693)
Southbound |
Friday, July 13 between Gillam and Thompson (train #694)
VIA Rail is in contact with customers who have booked a seat on affected trains. For more information, travellers are encouraged to contact a sales representative by phone by calling 1 888 VIA-RAIL (1 888 842-7245) or 1 800 268-9503 (deaf or hard of hearing).
VIA Rail suspended its services on July 5 following a derailment in the Hudson Bay area of Saskatchewan. The rail line at the site of the incident has since been cleared and repaired.
