Valspar Names Cynthia A. Arnold, Ph.D., Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer

The Valspar Corporation (NYSE: VAL), announced today that Cynthia A. Arnold, Ph.D. has joined Valspar as Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer reporting to William L. Mansfield, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. In this role, Dr. Arnold will lead Valspar’s global technology activities and becomes an officer of the company.

Dr. Arnold joins Valspar from Sun Chemical where she served as Chief Technology Officer. Prior to Sun Chemical, she served as Vice President, Technology, Coatings Adhesives and Specialties, for Eastman Chemical and in R&D and business leadership positions with GE, most recently as President of Exatec, LLC, a joint venture of Bayer Polymers and GE Plastics. Prior to GE, she was a Sloan Executive Science and Engineering Fellow in the Office of Science and Technology Policy, the White House, Washington D.C. Dr. Arnold holds a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering and an MBA from the University of California, Berkeley and a doctorate in materials science and engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.

Dr. Arnold succeeds Larry B. Brandenburger, Ph.D., Vice President, Research and Development, who will retire from Valspar in January 2011 after 31 years of service.
