TSX Ends 2-Week Win Streak -- Canadian Commentary
(RTTNews) - Canadian stocks ended a positive week with a whimper on Friday, putting an end to their longest win streak since 1995.
The Toronto Stock Exchange's S&P/TSX composite index slipped 4.65 points, or 0.03 percent, at 14,205.72.
It was the first loss in thirteen sessions on Bay Street. Financials and tech stocks struggled, offsetting gains among energy stocks.
Agrium Inc. (AGU.TO) reported a significant drop in fourth-quarter net earnings due to sluggish sales and lower prices. Still, shares were up 2.2 percent.
Loblaw (L.TO) said it will expand with 141 Joe Fresh low-cost apparel stores in 23 countries. The stock was up 1.4 percent, adding to yesterday's gains.
First Quantum Minerals Ltd. (FM.TO) Thursday reported fourth-quarter net income of $0.22 per share, down from last year but in line with estimates. FM shares slipped 1.8 percent.
In economic news, Statistics Canada says December retail sales dropped 1.8 percent compared with November as winter storms walloped Toronto region.
