    PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 22, 2005--Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE:A) today announced that Triton PCS, a leading provider of digital wireless phone service in the southeastern United States, has deployed Agilent's acceSS7 Location solution for passive monitoring of its radio frequency (RF) network. Triton PCS will use the base-station controller Abis interface data that has been collected, correlated and enriched by Agilent's solution to help comply with the strict location requirements of Phase II of the U.S. Federal Communications Commission's Enhanced 911 (E911) mandate. The mandate requires service providers to give the location information of wireless 911 callers to public emergency-service agencies within an accuracy of 100 meters 67 percent of the time and 300 meters 95 percent of the time.
    "We deployed acceSS7 Location Abis monitors to observe our GSM radio access network," said Juan Cabello, executive director of project management at Triton PCS. "This provides the required RF-channel information and network power measurements that enable our wireless location system to identify a caller's location."
    The wireless location system builds a picture of the Triton PCS network based on the RF-channel data, which ensures that customers can be located within the guidelines specified by the FCC. Unlike other vendors' network-based solutions, this non-intrusive approach to locating handsets eliminates the need for loading or polling and, therefore, does not interfere with network performance.
