Toyota, Honda July Production Rise

(RTTNews) - Japanese automakers Toyota Motor Corp. (TYT.L, TM), Honda Motor Co. Ltd. (HMC), Nissan Motor Co Ltd. (NSANF.PK, NSANY.PK) and Mitsubishi Motors Corp. (7211, MMTOF.PK) Thursday reported production details for the month of July.

While Toyota and Honda reported increased production, Nissan and Mitsubishi reported declines from last year.

Toyota said its worldwide production in July rose 2.5 percent to 888,551 units.

Production of the Toyota brand rose 3.9 percent to 779,823 units, while that of Daihatsu Motor Co., Ltd. and Hino Motors, Ltd. fell 7 percent and 3 percent, respectively.

Production in Japan declined 5.7 percent to 389,370 units, while production outside Japan climbed 9.9 percent to 499,181 units.

Sales in Japan were 199,736 units, down 5.8 percent from last year, while Exports increased 5 percent to 184,898 units.

Exports for Toyota was 5 percent higher due to increased exports to Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Africa.

Domestic peer Honda said its worldwide production for July improved 7.2 percent to 363,497 units.

Production in Japan jumped 27.9 percent to 84,898 units, while the rise was 2.2 percent outside Japan to total 278,599 units.

For the Honda brand, sales in the Japanese market increased 23.7 percent to 70,971 units.

However, monthly total exports from Japan declined 74.1 percent to 2,754 units. Barring Asia, exports declined to all regions, including North America, the U.S., Europe and Others.

Separately, Nissan said its global production in July decreased 2.7 percent from last year to 365,448 units.

Production in Japan decreased 22.5 percent to 79,267 units, while production outside of Japan increased 4.8 percent to 286,181 units.

In the U.S., production increased 28.9 percent to 53,168 units, mainly due to increased demand for the new Rogue.

In Mexico, production increased 19.1 percent to 57,781 units, mainly due to strong sales of the Sentra and Versa.

In China, production fell 17.3 percent to 68,092 units, mainly due to reduced operating days because the summer holiday period was different from the previous year.

Global sales grew 0.6 percent to 416,933 units, marking an all-time record for the month of July.

Including mini-vehicles, Nissan sold 55,716 units in Japan, a decline of 10.3 percent year-on-year.

Sales outside of Japan increased 2.5 percent to 361,217 units, marking an all-time sales record for the month.

Nissan noted that its exports decreased 27.3 percent to 43,417 units.

Meanwhile, Mitsubishi reported total production of 112,163 units for the month of July, down slightly from last year.

Domestic Production was up at 62,174 units, marking the fourteenth consecutive monthly year-on-year increase since May, 2013. Production increased 12.7 percent for passenger cars. However, Overseas production fell to 49,989 units.

Domestic sales declined to 9,655 units, marking the first consecutive year-on-year decrease, while exports climbed to 34,721 units.

Toyota closed down 0.7 percent in Tokyo at 5,935.00 yen and Honda slid 0.2 percent to 3,531.50 yen.

Mitsubishi slipped around 0.1 percent to 1,197.00 yen, while Nissan dropped 0.5 percent to 1,009.00 yen.
