The Wall Street Journal Online Now Offers Desktop News Alerts; AT&T Is First To Advertise on This Service That Delivers Breaking News to Users' Computer Screens as It Happens.

    Business Editors

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 10, 2005--The Wall Street Journal Online at WSJ.com, the largest paid subscription news site on the Web, today announced the launch of Desktop News Alerts, a service that delivers alerts on major business and world news, the markets and technology to users' computer screens within minutes of major news events.
The Online Journal also announced that AT&T, the world's networking company, recently started advertising on this new service.
The Desktop News Alerts will appear in a small window on users' desktops--much like an instant messaging window--with a link to the Online Journal where subscribers can access full coverage. Users have the option to shut off or "snooze" the alert, if they don't want to be interrupted at that time. Alerts will be sent as major news events happen, such as big mergers, large swings in the stock market or significant world news. The Online Journal will continue to provide breaking-news alerts via e-mail.
"The Online Journal recognizes the importance of keeping our subscribers abreast of breaking news as it happens throughout the day," said Bill Grueskin, managing editor of The Wall Street Journal Online. "The Desktop News Alerts offer them a convenient way to do that."
AT&T's new advertising program with the Online Journal reaches senior level decision makers and by virtue of this exclusive alert sponsorship they insure their message will be associated with a service meant to improve their target audience's ability to be the first to know.
"The Online Journal continues to provide 'out of the box' ideas that improve our advertising's ability to generate results," said Jeff Bauer, media director, AT&T.
Users can sign up for the new Desktop News Alerts at http://www.wsj.com/alerts.
