The Travelers Companies Inc. Reports 12% Decline In Q1 Profit

(RTTNews) - The Travelers Companies Inc. (TRV) reported earnings for first quarter that declined from last year.

The company said its earnings dropped to $614 million, or $2.16 per share. This was down from $698 million, or $2.33 per share, in last year's first quarter.

Analysts had expected the company to earn $2.35 per share, according figures compiled by Thomson Reuters. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.

The company said revenue for the quarter rose 3.7% to $6.94 billion. This was up from $6.69 billion last year.
