The Swiss Stock Market Climbed On Wednesday With Support From Heavyweights

(RTTNews) - The Swiss stock market ended Wednesday's session with a gain. However, the Swiss market finished off of its highs on Wednesday. The market ended the previous two sessions of the week nearly unchanged. The index heavyweights provided support to the market at mid-week.

Several better than expected European economic reports provided a boost to the market and overshadowed the weak manufacturing PMI data from China. The stronger than expected U.S. new home sales in the afternoon provided further support.

The Swiss Market Index increased by 0.34 percent Wednesday and finished at 7,923.07. The Swiss Leader Index climbed by 0.19 percent and the Swiss Performance Index added 0.26 percent.

The worst performing stock Wednesday was Syngenta, with a loss of 4.0 percent. The agribusiness firm reported a decline in the first-half net income, mainly reflecting the absence of prior year's milestone corn rootworm trait royalty income.

The index heavyweights all finished in the green Wednesday. Roche led the way, with a gain of 1.0 percent. Novartis climbed by 0.3 percent and Nestle gained 0.2 percent.
