The Réseau de transport métropolitain becomes exo

MONTRÉAL, May 23, 2018 /CNW Telbec/ - As of today, the Réseau de transport métropolitain (RTM) becomes exo, the organization overseeing train, bus and paratransit services serving Greater Montréal, and more specifically the North and South shores.

The RTM was created nearly one year ago by merging 14 entities into one organization. The similarity of names and acronyms used by public transit agencies in Greater Montréal has led to some confusion among the public as to which body was responsible for providing which services. Because train and bus services, as well as infrastructure and equipment, which had once been the purview of various bodies, were consolidated into a single organization, a new brand image was needed. Both easy to pronounce and remember, exo stands out among our public transit partners, and clarifies its role with regard to the territory and the users it serves.

"Exo remains the same organization with the same team and mission: moving people in an efficient and enjoyable manner while targeting service excellence by being proactive and flexible," says Raymond Bachant, exo's Director General. "This identity is a promise to innovate for a reliable public transit system and efficient transportation that meet our customers' expectations."

What does exo mean?

  • Exo is a prefix that means "outer" and is a simple way to reference the territory we serve: Greater Montréal, specifically the North and South shores. Although our train and bus networks also serve customers in Montréal, Laval and Longueuil, the term exo refers to the fact that most of our users have chosen to live outside central Montréal.
  • ''Outer'' also means escaping the hustle and bustle of the city, and we want our customers to have the same feeling when riding with us. We offer them a worry-free moment where they can ride along safely in a calm environment. It's time they can use to read, nap, catch up on work, or listen to music: time for themselves.
