Publishing Writers/Business Editors
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 22, 2005--The New York Times announced today that it has launched its New York Times International Weekly in Russia's daily newspaper Izvestia. The first edition was published on February 21. Izvestia joins a growing number of newspapers that publish the supplement, which is designed to complement and enhance news coverage for their local audiences. The supplement will be published in English each Monday.
The New York Times International Weekly retains the layout and typography of The New York Times. It includes news coverage, commentary, color photos and graphics about the United States, world affairs, business, culture and social trends. The supplement is prepared in New York by a team of editors and designers from The New York Times News Service in consultation with editors from the partner newspapers.
"This arrangement with Izvestia is an opportunity to provide The New York Times's brand of journalism to one of Russia's leading newspapers," said Cristian Edwards, president, The New York Times News Service and Syndicate. "Izvestia's comprehensive local coverage coupled with The New York Times International Weekly's U.S. and world report will give readers in Russia more in-depth coverage of world news."

"Russians are interested in news about America and world affairs and what better way to offer a world perspective than with The Times."
