The Commercial Real Estate Certification Institute™ (CRECI™) Launches Certification for Early-Career CRE Professionals
SALT LAKE CITY, June 24, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Seventy-one commercial property managers are the first to earn the new Certified Manager of Commercial Properties™ (CMCP™) certification that recognizes early-career professionals for foundational knowledge in real estate operations and management. The CMCP is administered by the Commercial Real Estate Certification Institute™ (CRECI™), an independent certification body established by the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) International and BOMI International, the Independent Institute for Property and Facility Management Education. The official launch of the CMCP certification—the first of its kind in the industry—and the inaugural class of CMCP certificants both were announced at the 2019 BOMA International Conference & Expo in Salt Lake City on June 23.
"We congratulate the first group of CMCPs for passing a rigorous examination based on industry best practices and committing to ongoing professional development in commercial property management," said Murray Greene, BOMA Fellow, CPM, RPA, SMA, president and COO of Greene Commercial Real Estate Group, Inc., and chair of CRECI. According to Greene, the CMCP prepares property managers for a successful career in commercial real estate and helps companies develop and evaluate new talent. "CMCP instantly communicates to employers that property managers are ready for new responsibilities and advancement, as it verifies knowledge and skills in all major areas of property operations," Greene added. "It's a real boost to the property manager's career and a valuable tool for employers at the same time."
To be eligible for the CMCP exam, candidates must satisfy education and job experience requirements and complete 30 hours of verifiable commercial property management education from any source. Property managers with a four-year college degree can qualify for the exam with one year of industry experience, plus the 30-hour required training. CMCPs must commit to completing at least 45 hours of continuing professional development every three years to maintain the certification.
The CMCP exam is offered year-round at testing centers across the United States and reflects the body of knowledge necessary for a successful career in property management. The exam measures competency in the following areas: financial management and accounting; lease management and execution; building operations and maintenance, including building systems, contract management, capital projects, regulatory and voluntary compliance, and ethical best practices; building relationships with owners, occupants, vendors, staff, and asset managers; professional networking, civic involvement, and media relations; and integrated competencies, including innovation, service orientation, organization, and communications.
