TELUS Q2 Net Profit Declines - Quick Facts
(RTTNews) - Canadian telecommunications company Telus Corp. (TU, T.TO, T_A.TO) posted lower second-quarter net income of C$286 million, or C$0.44 per basic share, versus the prior year's C$299 million, or C$0.46 per basic share. Adjusted earnings amounted to C$354 million, or C$0.54 per share for the recent period. On average, 14 analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected earnings per share of C$0.53 for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude one-time items.
However, quarterly revenue increased 6.1% year-on-year to C$2.83 billion from C$2.67 billion a year earlier. Analysts estimated revenues of C$2.80 billion for the quarter. The C$161 million increase in consolidated revenue was generated by six percent growth in both wireless and wireline revenue, which was supported by continued subscriber additions and higher average revenue per unit across all growth services including wireless, Optik TV and high-speed Internet services.
During the quarter, TELUS returned C$490 million to shareholders, including C$209 million in dividends and C$281 million in share purchases. The 2012 figures have been adjusted for retrospective application of accounting standard IAS 19 Employee benefits, the firm said.
