Tekelec 6000 VoIP Application Server Undergoes IMS Interoperability Testing at Inaugural IMS Forum Plugfest This Week

Tekelec (NASDAQ: TKLC), a leading developer of high-performance network applications for next-generation fixed, mobile and packet networks, today announced that the Tekelec 6000 Voice over IP (VoIP) Application Server was part of Internet protocol multimedia subsystem (IMS) interoperability testing at the IMS Forum’s inaugural IMS Plugfest last week. Multi-vendor interoperability is critical to the adoption of IMS architecture because it allows operators to select applications best suited to their customer base. The new Release 6.0 of the session initiation protocol (SIP)-based Tekelec 6000 was used for interoperability testing during the event. The enhanced VoIP applications software, generally available since December 2006, offers new features, including video support for soft phone and desk phone applications, "six-nines” (99.9999 percent) reliability, redundant database servers and greater redundancy in session border controllers. In addition to video support, the SIP soft phone now has shared-line appearances, full Web-portal integration, telephony application program interface (TAPI) support and Microsoft Outlook™ contact calling. The Tekelec TekCore Session Manager also is being tested at the IMS Plugfest as one of the reference call session control function (CSCF) and reference SIP implementation platforms. TekCore is a SIP-based signaling and session control IMS core platform that is built to 3GPP standards and resides on an industry-standard advanced telecom computing architecture (ATCA) platform. It delivers the foundation for open, multimedia networks. "Tekelec is a leader in the drive for IMS interoperability, highlighted by our selection of the Tekelec 6000 VoIP Application Server and TekCore Session Manager to participate in Plugfest 2007,” said Michael Khalilian, president, IMS Forum and chief technology officer of Pervasip Corp. Jay Whitehurst, president and general manager, Tekelec Switching Solutions Group, added, "Providing greater options and the ability to differentiate operator service offerings is what drives us to continually enhance our product line as well as take a leadership role in important industry groups like the IMS Forum. The end result is that the Tekelec 6000 is the industry’s leading, IMS-capable application server that, in conjunction with the TekCore Session Manager, is positioning Tekelec as the open-standards based IMS leader.” Underscoring this claim, the Tekelec 6000, having successfully completed interoperability testing, can be deployed with a wide range of third-party softswitches and media gateways from other vendors, along with the Tekelec 9000 and 7000 softswitches and Tekelec 8200 media gateway.
