Tan Parker Announces Candidacy for Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives

FLOWER MOUND, Texas, March 8, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- After much thought, reflection and prayer, today State Representative Tan Parker announced his candidacy for Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives.  In doing so, he has also decided to resign as Chairman of the Texas House Republican Caucus to focus on this effort.

"I am ready to continue to serve Texas in a new leadership role bringing a unified effort for the betterment of our members and this great state. I am also very proud of my record as Chair of the Texas House Republican Caucus and the trust my fellow colleagues placed in me over the past three years.  During this time, we have focused upon the successes of our members while advancing the Republican principles that have built a stronger Texas.  Today, our caucus is seen as one of the most effective, conservative bodies among legislatures in the entire country. Yet, we have much more work ahead, and I am prepared to lead. Together, we will keep Texas the leading state for prosperity, liberty and opportunity," said Parker.

Currently in his sixth term, Representative Tan Parker represents North Texas House District 63, which includes the southwest portion of Denton County.  Since taking office, Parker has been a proven and recognized champion for economic development, strengthening border security, promoting fiscally responsible government spending, reducing tax burdens, protecting family values and the culture of life, and providing for greater public safety including improving child protection laws.  He has also worked to make state government more accessible and truly values the strong involvement of his constituency.
