Supply Chain Expert Joins Best Buy Management Team; Dan Currie Named S

MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 7, 2005--Best Buy Co., Inc. (NYSE:BBY) today announced that Daniel E. Currie, age 52, has joined the company as senior vice president, global supply chain. He reports to Bob Willett, executive vice president, operations.

"Retailers must reduce costs while continuously improving customer service and loyalty. Leading grocers have mastered this challenge and that's why we are so pleased to have Dan Currie join Best Buy. Dan, a supply chain expert from the food retailing world, will help us more fully leverage our logistics, inventory, and distribution strategies to support our growth initiatives."
Currie brings more than 35 years of experience in food retailing operations and supply chain management to Best Buy. Most recently, he served as executive vice president, supply chain and logistics, for Ahold USA, a subsidiary of the Netherlands-based Royal Ahold, the world's third-largest food retailer. Currie was responsible for the development of a comprehensive continental U.S. supply chain strategy which provides a competitive advantage within a $27 billion retail organization spanning six separate chains and nearly 1,500 supermarkets. Prior to that, Currie led retail operations, distribution and manufacturing operations for Giant Foods LLC as that company's executive vice president of operations. His experience also includes executive management positions at American Stores Company. He began his career in retail management and operations at Lucky Stores, Inc.
Currie holds a bachelor's degree in management from St. Mary's College (Moranga Park, Calif.).
