Enterprise Customers Avoid Vendor Lock-In, Reduce Costs and Deploy New Services with GlassFish Portfolio

Medavie Blue Cross

Medavie Blue Cross is a leading Canadian health insurance provider that offers health, travel, life and income replacement products to group and individual customers. "As the Java(TM) Platform Enterprise Edition 5 (Java EE) reference implementation built in open source, the Sun GlassFish Enterprise Server eliminates our concern of vendor lock- in,” said Vince Blanchard, director of Architecture and New Technology, Medavie Blue Cross. "We are able to leverage open source innovations and Java EE standards much more rapidly."

Pretium Telecom

"Sun, as a leader in Java, web and open source technologies, has greatly reduced our concerns of vendor lock-in with GlassFish Enterprise Service Bus (ESB). As a component of Sun's new GlassFish Portfolio, which provides a complete platform for dynamic web applications development, production support, and a strong commitment to standards, Sun's GlassFish ESB has allowed us to create new revenue generating Internet products and better serve our customers -- all with a lower TCO and initial investment,” said Ruud de Greef, CIO, Pretium Telecom.

Companies Leverage GlassFish Application Server, GlassFish ESB and Open Source

CareSpark

"CareSpark has elected to use open source tools where possible in our local health information exchange, as well as in our gateway to the Nationwide Health Information Network, provided that there are strong support services available that can assure continued alignment with national standards. Use of Sun's OpenESB technology and other standards-compliant open source solutions lowered both the initial costs and the time required for development, thereby reducing overall risks for the project,” Liesa Jenkins, executive director, CareSpark.

Hub City Media

Hub City Media is a Sun-certified software integrator serving clients nationwide in the pharmaceuticals, finance and health care industries as well as the public sector. ISVs Benefit from Project SailFin and Sun GlassFish Communications Server

Sun also announced strong third-party support for Project SailFin, a GlassFish project to build a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) communications server, and Sun GlassFish Communications Server, a telecommunications-grade, open source solution for creating and delivering multimedia and Web 2.0 mobile applications.

Ericsson

Ericsson is the world's leading provider of technology and services to telecom operators. The market leader in 2G and 3G mobile technologies, Ericsson supplies communications services and manages networks that serve more than 250 million subscribers. The company's portfolio comprises mobile and fixed network infrastructure, broadband and multimedia solutions for operators, enterprises and developers. "The Sun Glassfish Communications Server fits very well with our strategy of embracing standardized and open software as a basis for our multimedia products. It's a clear benefit for us to be able to be involved in early phases of the development via open source projects still having the benefits of using a commercial product," said Gunnar Heldebro, head of Multimedia R&D, within Ericsson.

Argela

"SailFin is an open source project supported by not only the community but also Sun. We thus have all the advantages of an open source project with professional support behind the commercial product,” said Ayse Erinc, COO, Argela. "With GlassFish Communications Server, any Java EE developers can now create converged telecomapplications such as VoIP, IM, multimedia-applications even IMS compliant IPTV Middleware core.”

CGI

CGI is a leading IT and business process services provider with 25,500 professionals operating in 100+ offices worldwide. "Ultimately, the GlassFish Communications Server shows tremendous promise to accomplish its goal to be a robust and scalable open-source SIP application server,” said Allison McAfrey, vice president and IPCentricITy™ practice lead, CGI. "We believe that Sun's solution positions us well to provide a cost-effective service delivery ecosystem option for our customers - particularly desirable during these challenging economical times."

Gintel

Offering a range of feature rich applications, including the Easy Virtual PBX solution, Gintel is uniquely equipped to leverage both its rich heritage of legacy telco experience and cutting-edge IT technologies. "Project SailFin offers much to Gintel and our customers. There is a clear need for a robust, carrier grade SIP application server, and SailFin has already attracted considerable interest from our customer base. It’s available on platforms that are familiar to us and our customers, which is a great proof point,” said Tore Saeter, vice president, Marketing and Sales, Gintel. "Add to this the fact that it is a complete solution, offering both the middleware we need and database capabilities, backed by Sun’s global presence and reputation, and a compelling package emerges. It’s definitely going to cause a splash.”

IP Gallery

"IPgallery has been working closely with Sun for all of its deployments worldwide. Thus, it was only natural for us to explore Sun’s SailFin Platform,” said Hila Dahan, associate vice president Marketing, IPgallery. "We have integrated SailFin with our All-in-One Application Server and today we offer our customers a variety of time-critical and web-based services including: Class 5 IP Telephony, IP Centrex, FMC, Mobile virtual PBX, Telco and Web 2.0, IMS Rich Communication Suite (RCS) and Mash up services for the residential and business segments. In addition, we have wrapped SailFin with our interfaces layer, allowing it to become network-agnostic and run on top of Cellular, Fixed-line, Cable, Softswitch, NGN and IMS environments. SailFin proved to be a perfect match for IPgallery completing our offering.”

Personeta

"Using GlassFish Communications Server, Personeta is uniquely positioned to foster innovation and address the emerging trend around open application development of converged multimedia services. Combining Sun's product expertise with Personeta's extensive solutions of next-generation IN and Fixed Mobile Convergence for business and consumer markets helps our customers self create new revenue streams and improving customer loyalty by providing a market-leading set of differentiated, convergent, multimedia services," said Avraham Rosenbach, president and CEO, Personeta.

Telepo

"The Telepo team has expertise in developing SIP applications since the very early days of SIP and we utilize the benefits of the protocol fully. Therefore we haven't been able to use any closed source SIP stacks or application servers due to the limited maturity of these,” said Jörgen Björkner, CTO, Telepo. "With SailFin we could contribute our expertise, which is an important requirement for us to move from an in-house platform to a standard application server. It has been great to work with Sun as the company understands our needs and deliver a product that is easy to integrate, standards-based and with carrier-grade reliability.”

Tieto Enator

"Sun GlassFish Communications Server (Project Sailfin) constitutes a significant step towards a standardised open source telecom platform. Its architecture and features make it suitable for telecommunications deployments, ranging from basic stand-alone applications to mission critical systems, and enable a reduction of total cost of ownership and shorter time to market for our NEP and operator customers," said Matti Drisin, director, NEP Strategy and Business Development, Tieto Enator.
