StorageTek Teams With Pro Golfers to Raise $50,000 for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation
LOUISVILLE, Colo., May 23 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The StorageTek Foundation, the philanthropic arm of data storage solutions provider StorageTek(R) (Storage Technology Corporation) , has teamed with PGA and LPGA golfers such as Paul Azinger, Juli Inkster, Scott McCarron and Rocco Mediate to raise $50,000 for the Denver Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation as part of the annual StorageTek Chairman's Cup Golf Tournament.
"At StorageTek, we take our role in the community seriously," said Roger Gaston, president of the StorageTek Foundation and corporate vice president of Human Resources at StorageTek. "We enthusiastically support the local Komen Foundation chapter, and want to encourage our customers participating in our golf tournament to join us in raising funds for this worthy cause."
The Spring 2005 StorageTek Chairman's Cup Golf Tournament, which takes place Monday, May 23, through Wednesday, May 25, at the Castle Pines Golf Club in Castle Rock pairs StorageTek customers with company executives and nine professional golfers: Azinger, Bruce Fleisher, Inkster, Hilary Lunke, Mark Lye, McCarron, Mediate and Stan Utley. Jennifer Mills from the Golf Channel also will be on hand at the event.
"As a cancer survivor, I understand first-hand how important organizations such as the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation are," said Azinger. "I am thrilled to participate in the StorageTek Chairman's Cup tournament, and I applaud StorageTek for integrating its customer activities with its support of the Komen Foundation."
Jennifer Mills, anchor for the Golf Channel, said, "Golf is a wonderful business tool and a game whose value and code of honor teaches us to give back. StorageTek and golf fit like a hand-in-glove."
Since customer teams do not pay to attend or play in the tournament, StorageTek offers them the opportunity to help support a good cause through a donation. StorageTek and its customers' donations will help the Denver Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation carry out its mission of eradicating breast cancer as a life-threatening disease.
"StorageTek and its customers' generous donations will greatly support our efforts as a global leader in the fight against breast cancer," said Valerie Chilewski, Executive Director of the Denver Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Foundation. "With such charitable funding, we can continue to fight this disease through innovative research and community-based outreach programs."
