Stephen Wong Named President of Avnet Electronics Marketing, Asia

    PHOENIX--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 10, 2005--Avnet Electronics Marketing, an operating group of Avnet Inc. (NYSE:AVT) that markets and distributes electronic components, announces the appointment of Stephen Wong as president of Avnet Electronics Marketing, Asia, a business producing annual revenues in excess of US $1 billion.
    Wong will report to Harley Feldberg, president of Avnet Electronics Marketing, and will be based in Singapore.
    He joins Avnet from Freescale Semiconductor, where he most recently served as vice president and director of Freescale product sales for Asia Pacific. Wong joined Freescale/Motorola in 1977 and over the course of a 28-year career with Motorola, he advanced through a variety of posts including product engineer, lead marketing, business development, application engineering, IC design and IC assembly/test manufacturing. He holds a master's degree in business administration from the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

    Wong replaces Raymond Tsang, who ran the business for three years before his exit earlier this year. Tsang will continue to serve on the company's Asia management board that oversees Avnet's strategic business development throughout Asia.
    The Asia region is important for the electronics industry. To date, Avnet has invested more than US $500 million in assets across Asia. The company employs approximately 1,100 people in the region, with about 500 based in the People's Republic of China, working from 22 facilities on the mainland. In total, Avnet has a presence in 10 Asia Pacific countries, including 40 sales offices, four design centers, four distribution centres and three programming centres.
