SPSS Launches Breakthrough Version of Dimensions Market Research Platf
Business Editors/Technology Writers
CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 9, 2005--SPSS Inc. (NASDAQ: SPSS), the leading provider of predictive analytics and of tools for the market research industry, today announced the availability of the latest version of Dimensions(TM), Dimensions 3.0, a comprehensive suite for survey design, data collection, data management, analysis and publishing of survey results. Dimensions 3.0 represents a significant technological breakthrough with the introduction of a new survey scripting language that enables users to continue their current work practices while providing new opportunities to create richer surveys that improve the overall respondent experience.
Dimensions 3.0 is based entirely on a single, integrated set of underlying technologies that support a wide range of survey research, from multi-lingual, multi-model research to smaller, one-of-a-kind projects.
The new Dimensions Scripting language enables users of Dimensions' mrInterview(TM), a system for creating and managing online and telephone surveys, and mrStudio(TM), a script development and comprehensive data-management system, to focus on improving survey quality and reducing the survey life cycle.
"Dimensions 3.0 offers significant insight into the way research works and how respondents react," said Hans Donkers, research director at EIM Stratus, a Holland-based management-consulting firm. "We now have a compete view of the entire project, and that's added tremendous value. A new researcher can become competent in using Dimensions within a week, and once experienced, a 40-question Web survey requires no more than an afternoon's work."
The new Dimensions Scripting enhances the functionality of mrInterview and, through the new mrStudio Interview Option, provides power users with the first Unified Scripting Environment that can be used at every stage of the survey process. mrStudio is the first application to enable researchers to build, edit, preview, and test surveys on their desktop without needing to send surveys to a Web server first.
With the new Dimensions Scripting language, researchers and administrators gain flexibility in survey design and additional control of back-end processes, such as Microsoft(R) Office integration and automation of survey related data and respondent processing.
"We designed Dimensions 3.0 in collaboration with leading market researchers to best meet the industry's needs," says Ian Durrell, SPSS president, market research. "Dimensions 3.0 offers researchers a more tightly integrated view of the entire survey life-cycle, to promote the development, deployment and analysis of surveys more efficiently and accurately."
Other new features of Dimensions 3.0 include:
-- | AutoAnswer, which enables survey designers to test the structure and logic of a survey by running thousands of sample interviews. |
-- | WordCapture - used to generate surveys from the information already held in Microsoft Word. |
-- | The ability to author questionnaires in double-byte languages, such as Japanese, natively. |
-- | More telephone features like enhanced time-zone support, interviewer qualifications, and ability to create and customize telephone reports. |
-- | mrStudio and mrInterview now support the ability to combine an almost unlimited number of questions on a single page, including combinations that incorporate one or more grids of any type with any number of other question types. |
-- | Script Snippets, provide users with the ability to augment mrInterview's existing featureset through the implementation of code that has been built using mrStudio. |
-- | Two or more data sets can now be successfully merged within mrStudio through the new vertical and horizontal merging facilities. |
In addition to mrStudio and mrInterview, other Dimensions products include mrPaper(TM), which enables survey researchers to create paper surveys easily and efficiently; mrScan(TM), which automatically prepares paper surveys for scanning; mrTables(TM) for interacting with tables on a desktop; and mrTranslate(TM), which facilitates survey researchers' ability to manage multilingual and multi-modal survey projects. The Dimensions Data Model(TM), which is at the core of the Dimensions platform, employs open, industry-standard technologies that allow users to create their own research methodology.
Twenty-four of the top 25 global market research organizations rely on SPSS technologies to maximize productivity and accuracy through every phase of the research process, from ad hoc research projects to high-volume, complex research programs.
