Spectra Energy Selects 2007 Scholarship Recipients

HOUSTON, May 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Ten children of Spectra Energy employees have been selected to receive up to $5,000 per year in scholarships toward undergraduate study at an accredited college or university in the United States or Canada.

Scholarship recipients are chosen annually by an independent committee of judges and must be graduating high school/secondary school seniors. The committee reviews and selects applicants based on their performance in academics, leadership and participation in school and community activities, honors and awards, work experience and financial need. The scholarships will pay the students up to $20,000 during their four years of undergraduate study.

"Spectra Energy's scholarship program demonstrates the company's continued support of our employees and retirees, as well as our company's commitment to fostering educational growth as new generations prepare to enter the work force," said Martha Wyrsch, president and chief executive officer, Spectra Energy Transmission. "We received applications from many extremely deserving students and are pleased to support their pursuit of higher education."

Two other students were recognized for their achievements and will each receive a one-time $2,500 scholarship.

SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS:

Jessica Bigelow of Kitchener, Ontario -- A student at Resurrection Catholic Secondary School in Kitchener, and the daughter of Richard and Christine Bigelow.

Sarah Canning of Chetwynd, British Columbia -- A student at Chetwynd Secondary School in Chetwynd, and the daughter of Kevin and Diana Canning.

Jose De Luna of Portland, Texas -- A student at Gregory-Portland High School, and is the son of Jose and Mary Lou De Luna.

Matthew Dickenson of Gary, Texas -- A student at the Dickenson-Evanoff Academy in Gary, Texas, and the son of Michael and Lycia Evanoff and William Dickenson.

John Donohue of Chatham, Ontario -- A student at Chatham-Kent Secondary School, and the son of John and Enza Donohue.

Damilola Egbedeyi of Chatham, Ontario -- A student at Chatham Christian High School in Chatham, and the daughter of Mark and Ellen Egbedeyi-Emmanuel.

Carson McFadden of Dresden, Ontario -- A student at Lambton-Kent Composite School in Dresden, and the son of Allan and Nancy Blanford-McFadden.

Preston Plachy of Tomball, Texas -- A student at Tomball High School, and the son of Richard and Suellen Plachy.

Elizabeth Smith of Hope, Ark. -- A student at Hope High School in Hope, Ark., and the daughter of John and Ann Smith.

Chelsey Tennant of Chilliwack, British Columbia -- A student at Sardis Senior Secondary School, and is the daughter of Richard and Lorie Tennant.

ONE TIME RECIPIENTS:

Whitney Corbello of Lake Charles, La.-- A student at Sam Houston High School and the daughter of Kevin and Toni Corbello.

Rachel Guerin of Chatham, Ontario -- A student at John McGregor Secondary School and the daughter of Kirk and Cindy Guerin.
