Southwest Offset Printing Company to Print The New York Times in Southern California; Contract Print Site to Provide Improved Print Quality and Color Capacity

    NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 27, 2005--The New York Times announced today that it began printing its national edition at Southwest Offset Printing Company in Gardena, Calif. on January 23. The new printing arrangement is expected to provide improved quality and color capacity. The Times had been printed in Torrance, Calif. since 1982.

Kramer, senior vice president of circulation, The New York Times. "The great content of The Times will be complemented by the high-quality printing that this deal brings."

    For advertisers, the new color capacity in the newspaper will allow for 16 pages in a 36-page section, up from a maximum of 10 color pages in the past. The new printing arrangement will also allow for 28-page stand-alone sections with color on every page.

    Financial terms of the printing arrangement were not disclosed.
