Social Impact Awards Celebrate Chicago Mental Health Advocates
CHICAGO, March 1, 2018 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Chicago School of Professional Psychology (TCSPP) will hold its Social Impact Leaders Awards luncheon on March 29, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. at Chicago's Sofitel Hotel. The inaugural event will honor Chicago-area mental health advocates who make an impact in the areas of mental health, psychology, and behavioral health. Registration is now open. The Chicago School is a leading nonprofit, private university devoted exclusively to psychology, and related behavioral health sciences.
Emceed by actress Torrey DeVitto of NBC's Chicago Med, the luncheon is sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois and will recognize:
- Richard A. Chaifetz, Psy.D., founder, chairman and CEO of ComPsych Corporation. Dr. Chaifetz pioneered fully integrated employee assistance, behavioral health, wellness, work-life and human resources administration services.
- Marilyn and Larry Cohen, founders of the Naomi Ruth Cohen Institute for Mental Health Education (NRCI). Housed on The Chicago School's Chicago Campus, NRCI is dedicated to reducing the stigma that interferes with people impacted by mental illness getting the support they need and becoming fully integrated into their communities.
- Beth Rom-Rymer, Ph.D., founder, Rom-Rymer and Associates and past-president, Illinois Psychological Association (IPA). As president of the IPA, Dr. Rom-Rymer led the statewide lobbying effort that resulted in the passage of the 2014 Illinois law allowing licensed clinical psychologists with advanced, specialized training in clinical psychopharmacology and medicine to prescribe medications in the treatment of mental disorders.
"Today, one in five Americans live with a mental illness, but for many reasons, including stigma and lack of access, a gap in treatment persists," said Margie Martyn, Ph.D., TCSPP Chicago Campus Dean. "All of our honorees have demonstrated their commitment to improving the lives of those suffering from mental disorders through their initiatives. As an institution that educates a significant number of the psychologists in America and prides itself on training and educating the next generation of mental and behavioral health practitioners, we are proud to recognize them at this event and salute the many thousands who are leading the way for change."
Proceeds from the Social Impact Leaders Awards luncheon will go to NRCI, scholarships for students, and programs on The Chicago School's Chicago Campus.
