    SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 7, 2005--

Leading Third-Party Software Suppliers Join Freescale in Enabling
the MPC8360E PowerQUICC II Pro Processor Family With Best-in-Class
Development Tools, Embedded Operating Systems and Protocol Stacks

To accelerate the developer community's adoption of next-generation PowerQUICC(TM) processors containing PowerPC(R) cores and QUICC Engine(TM) technology, Freescale Semiconductor (NYSE:FSL) (NYSE:FSL.B) has lined up support from top-tier silicon enablement companies.
Enablement solutions planned for Freescale's MPC8360E PowerQUICC II Pro family with QUICC Engine technology includes software development tools, real-time operating systems (RTOSs), embedded Linux(R) operating system distributions and protocol stacks from third-party suppliers, as well as application development boards from Freescale.
The newly introduced MPC8360E family is designed to meet the convergence, compatibility and cost requirements of next-generation wireless and wireline broadband equipment. QUICC Engine technology is an evolutionary leap forward for Freescale's communications processor module (CPM). It is engineered to deliver the packet throughput, interworking capabilities, multi-protocol support, high channel density and software compatibility that equipment manufacturers need to develop advanced yet economical solutions for converged packet networks.
"Two factors that make the MPC8360E family with QUICC Engine a very attractive solution for developers are the rich enablement ecosystem Freescale has planned for the new family and software compatibility across the PowerQUICC line," said Eric Mantion, a senior analyst at In-Stat. "From Freescale's CodeWarrior(TM) QUICC Engine utility to software tools, operating systems and protocol stacks from third-party suppliers, PowerQUICC architecture is supported by one of the most extensive lineups of enablement technology in the industry. Software compatibility is also a huge plus because it enables developers to leverage their existing code base, which reduces development costs and speeds time to market."

    CodeWarrior QUICC Engine Utility

To help developers fully leverage QUICC Engine technology, Freescale offers the CodeWarrior QUICC Engine utility at no cost to customers. Designed to accelerate and simplify product creation, the utility provides an easy-to-use graphical user interface (GUI) designed to simplify initialization and configuration of drivers and communications protocols managed by QUICC Engine technology. The CodeWarrior utility also features protocol conflict notification capabilities, as well as immediate access to documentation via "mouse-over" functionality and drop-down menus.
"The CodeWarrior QUICC Engine utility was designed to make adoption of Freescale's QUICC Engine technology a pain-free experience for developers and systems designers," said Calvin Harrison, network communications marketing director for Freescale's CodeWarrior products. "The utility helps customers speed though the initialization and configuration process so they can spend more time on code creation and other tasks that contribute to the ultimate success of the end product."

    Third-Party Enablement Support

"One of the strengths of the PowerQUICC family of communications processors is the longstanding enablement support it has received from members of Freescale's Design Alliance Program," said David Perkins, senior vice president of Freescale and general manager of Freescale's Networking and Computing Systems Group. "We recognize the significant contributions that our third-party partners have made to the PowerQUICC ecosystem and applaud each software supplier's commitment to support the MPC8360E family and QUICC Engine technology with outstanding enablement solutions."
"Freescale's new QUICC Engine technology marks another major step forward for the PowerQUICC architecture, particularly for the secure, high-availability, IP-based telecom infrastructure applications that Enea targets," said Mike Christofferson, director of product marketing at Enea Embedded Technology. "We look forward to continuing our PowerQUICC support with an optimized version of our OSE real-time operating system and tools for the MPC8360E PowerQUICC II Pro processor family."
"Green Hills Software will provide a complete software development solution optimized for the MPC8360E processor family with QUICC Engine technology. This solution will enable developers to quickly produce high performance, totally reliable and absolutely secure applications with minimum production cost," said Robert Redfield, director of partner business development at Green Hills Software. "Green Hills Software products included in this solution are our MULTI integrated development environment, optimizing C, C++ and Ada compilers, processor probes, the securely partitioned INTEGRITY real-time operating system and small and fast velOSity microkernel, both royalty-free. Additionally, our dual-mode IPv4/IPv6 protocol stacks will take advantage of the MPC8360E integrated security engine for optimized IPsec performance."
"MontaVista is excited to be working with Freescale to support the launch of their new MPC8360E processor family with QUICC Engine technology," said Peder Ulander, vice president of marketing, MontaVista Software. "Many communications vendors are looking to MontaVista Software as their preferred Linux development platform, and the combination of our Linux technology with Freescale PowerQUICC II Pro processors will provide a comprehensive solution, simplifying the development of next-generation IP networking equipment."
"The success of communications engines like QUICC Engine technology depends on the timely availability of silicon enablement solutions," said Romain Saha, networking segment manager, QNX Software Systems. "QNX has long supported PowerQUICC processors and intends to offer QNX Neutrino RTOS support for this new family, creating a powerful platform for developing highly scalable networking applications."
"As a leading supplier of embedded Linux technologies and development tools, TimeSys looks forward to providing processor-optimized Linux OS-based silicon enablement solutions for Freescale's MPC8360E family with QUICC Engine technology," said Larry Weidman, president and CEO of TimeSys. "The combination of TimeSys development tools and technology and MPC8360E processors will provide system developers with an advanced platform for creating next-generation IP networking equipment based on embedded Linux."
"Wind River enables hardware and software engineers to streamline their development efforts and accelerate their time to market," said John Fanelli, vice president of product planning and management at Wind River. "We have a long-standing relationship with Freescale, and we plan to support the MPC8360E PowerQUICC II Pro processor family to continue in that tradition, helping customers create innovative, next-generation devices."
