SiEnergy Systems, LLC Names Zakiul Kabir as Chief Technology Officer
SiEnergy Systems, LLC, which is commercializing low temperature thin film solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) technology from Harvard University, named Zakiul Kabir, the former Chief Technology Officer for ClearEdge Power, as its new Chief Technology Officer.
Mr. Kabir has spent two decades working with energy and fuel cell technology, and has steered cutting-edge technical innovations through research and development to the global market. His expertise includes low-temperature and high-temperature PEM fuel cells, as well as Phosphoric acid fuel cells, and he has led product design and development activities for both stationary and transportation applications.
While CTO at ClearEdge, Mr. Kabir played an integral role in strategy, business development and international expansion initiatives. He also was involved in fuel cell stack development; system design and integration; and fuel processor design, development and characterization – activities that he gained experience in while at UTC Power, a former division of United Technologies. Before joining SiEnergy, Mr. Kabir was Senior Director of Engineering at GlassPoint Solar.
"Zaki brings extensive expertise in fuel cell technology and the larger energy industry,” said Dr. Vincent Chun, General Manager of SiEnergy and a Vice President at its parent company, Allied Minds (LSE: ALM). "He has engineered products and guided companies at an executive level, working with manufacturers, suppliers, and developers. He built his knowledge base in large companies and fine-tuned his skills in start-up environments. He brings a depth and breadth of experience that will be invaluable to our team as we continue to develop fuel cell technology that provides an efficient, effective, low-cost energy source that reduces reliance on fossil fuels.”
SiEnergy Systems is seeking to develop a thin film SOFC for the mobile and small power generation markets in order to reduce fuel cell cost, and allow fast start-up and load following capability by responding rapidly to changes in power demand. The targeted end result is a practical, affordable, and energy-efficient system that is able to use convenient fuels and significantly reduce fossil fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.
"The time has come for fuel cells and our technology is at the sweet spot to achieve high performance combined with the ability to use low cost materials,” said Mr. Kabir. "I am excited by the opportunity to help SiEnergy Systems expand its technology with products that make economic sense and are good for the planet.”
SiEnergy’s efforts to develop a hybrid electrochemical system that performs as both a fuel cell and a battery have been recognized by Massachusetts state as well as U.S. federal regulators. Earlier this year, the company was awarded a $300,000 grant from the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC) under their AmplifyMass program, and last year the company received funding from the U.S. Department of Energy’s ARPA-E (Advanced Research Projects Agency — Energy) program.

About SiEnergy Systems, LLC
SiEnergy Systems is commercializing a proprietary thin film solid oxide fuel cell technology developed at Harvard University. The technology uses commonplace high throughput solar/LED manufacturing processes to create SOFCs with nanometer-scale electrolytes that operate at low temperature, use less material, and are scalable to meet various power requirements. The "Silicon Energy” reduces the cost of SOFCs and creates clean and affordable mobile and small stationary power sources. For more information, visit www.sienergysystems.com.
