    ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 11, 2005--Serologicals Corporation (NASDAQ: SERO) today announced that Upstate Group, its wholly owned subsidiary, is sponsoring the Second Annual Cell Signalling Symposium to be held June 12-15, 2005, at the Apex City Quay Hotel, Dundee, U.K. It is co-sponsored by Upstate and the MRC Protein Phosphorylation Unit at the University of Dundee. This two-and-a-half day, not-for-profit meeting is entitled 'Implications of the LKB1 and AMPK Systems.' Registration is open to all scientists with an interest in cell signaling, drug discovery and disease.
    The keynote lecture will be held on Sunday evening, June 12, by Tony Pawson from the Samuel Lumenfeld Research Institute, Toronto, Canada on the topic of Cell Polarity. The keynote will be followed by an Account of the Discovery of LKB1 by Lauri Aaltonen from the University of Helsinki, Finland. Other featured speakers include Dario Alessi and other scientists from the University of Dundee; Imperial College, London; Harvard Institute of Medicine, Boston; August Krogh Institute, Copenhagen; Stanford University School of Medicine, and others. Topics featured will include: Structure and Regulation of AMPK; Physiology of AMPK in Muscle and Diabetes; LKB1 Regulation of AMPK and mTOR; LKB1 and Novel Treatments for Peutz Jeghers Syndrome; LKB1 and the MARK Kinases in Drosophila.
    Also at the symposium, the winner of the Upstate Young Cell Signaller 2005 Award will be announced from five finalists chosen from Ph.D. students and first time post-doctorates who are encouraged to submit abstracts to an experienced scientific panel for judging. The winner will receive $17,000 (EUR 14,000) worth of support funding for reagents for their laboratory, a personal cash prize of $8,500 (EUR 7000) and a trophy.
