Selling without reserve at Worldwide Auctioneers' 13th annual Auburn Auction - three extraordinary collections, headed by the historic Stainless Steel Trifecta

AUBURN, Ind., Aug. 28, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Among the landmark consignments slated to go under the hammer at Worldwide Auctioneers' 13th annual Auburn Auction in Indiana this Labor Day Weekend is the celebrated Stainless Steel Trifecta, a once-in-a-lifetime chance for a collector to acquire a trio of historic vehicles first conceived by the pioneering stainless steel producer Allegheny Ludlum Inc. in collaboration with the Ford Motor Company in 1935. Built to showcase the extreme durability and aesthetic appeal of the new metal and comprising a 1936 Ford Deluxe Sedan, 1960 Ford Thunderbird and 1967 Lincoln Continental Convertible, the Stainless Steel Trifecta will be offered without reserve, as a single consignment.

"Just eleven of these iconic stainless steel cars were ever produced and this trio has amazingly been retained by the original corporate owner from new," said John Kruse, Principal and Auctioneer. "They are extraordinary artifacts from a dynamic era of innovation for the both the steel and automotive industries in America. After lifetime custodianship, Allegheny Ludlum believes that they deserve to take their place in a significant collection or museum, where they can be more widely appreciated in a collector car environment for generations to come. We are honored to have been entrusted with their sale here in Auburn, at what is the only live boutique catalogue sale still on the calendar for 2020."

In 1935, executives at the Ford Motor Company and Pittsburgh-based Allegheny Ludlum Steel joined forces on the production of a solid stainless steel car, a 1936 Deluxe Sedan. Only six of the 1936 Fords were built in total and all were far from being simply promotional trailer-queens; each was to log over 200,000 miles in the hands of Allegheny Ludlum executives until their "retirement" in 1946, outlasting most of their non-stainless body parts and multiple engines. Of the six stainless steel cars that rolled off the Ford assembly line in Detroit in 1936, only four exist today. Allegheny Ludlum would later collaborate on two more stainless models, the 1960 Thunderbird and 1967 Lincoln Continental Convertible. Just two Thunderbirds were created in 1960 and both retain their original exhaust systems today, after 60 years and more than 100,000 miles each. The 1967 Lincoln Convertible was the last of the stainless steel cars produced. Except for the vehicle's body, all other parts and equipment on the car are standard. Only three were made, once again proving that stainless steel's enduring beauty is matched by its toughness.

The Auburn Auction offers something for every enthusiast. Smaller, but no less perfectly formed, is a captivating all-steel, faultlessly scaled Duesenberg Pedal Car, also set to go under the hammer at no reserve. Created by the noted late Don Dettmer of Auburn, one of only four ever built, it was purchased many years ago by the current owner as a gift for his granddaughter and proceeds from its sale will now go toward her college education. Outstanding full-size pre-war automobiles on offer on September 5th include an award winning, meticulously restored 1935 Auburn 851 SC Boattail Speedster with body design by Gordon Buehrig, an immaculate 1927 Rolls-Royce Springfield Phantom I Brewster Regent Convertible Coupe with striking Phantom I styling and a beautifully restored 1939 Rolls-Royce Phantom III Four-Door Cabriolet with coachwork by Park Ward.

Other exceptional, no-reserve collections consigned to the sale include The Red Collection, a selection of extremely desirable, numbers-matching Corvette Roadsters and one Coupe, representing model years 1961 through 1967, with coveted Triple Crown Award winners included in the offering. The Pristine Collection of Eric McConnell is one of the most immaculate restomod collections to hit the market, each car having been crafted and custom built for aesthetics and performance with no expense spared, with multiple award winning vehicles in the 17-car selection.

To be presented as a simultaneous live and online event, the Auburn Auction is scheduled for Saturday, September 5th, with over 75% of consignments offered without reserve. The sale kicks off at 2:30pm with a no-reserve offering of 250 lots of high quality, fresh-to-market memorabilia, continuing at 6pm with the motorcar segment of the sale. The auction will feature live in-person bidding and will run simultaneously on three online partner platforms; Proxibid, Invaluable and LiveAuctioneers. The sale takes place at Kruse Plaza, Worldwide's Auburn, Indiana headquarters, with safe social distancing and sanitation measures in place and a dedicated implementation specialist directing all event and campus COVID-19 safety protocols.
