SEI Partners with Art Ability at Bryn Mawr Rehab Hospital to Celebrate Artists With Disabilities
OAKS, Pa., Sept. 14, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- SEI (NASDAQ: SEIC) today announced a partnership with Art Ability, an organization which serves as a unique and accessible venue for artists with disabilities, to display and sell their work. Approximately 80 pieces, submitted by artists from around the world, are on display at SEI's Oaks campus and available for purchase. The installation will continue through January of 2018.
Art Ability began at Bryn Mawr Rehab Hospital in 1996 as an eight-week exhibit and sale of work by artists with disabilities. The program's mission is to create awareness for those with disabilities, and encourage people with disabilities to reach beyond their limitations, and find fulfilment and inspiration through art. Now, in addition to the annual exhibit, Bryn Mawr Rehab Hospital partners with institutions to host satellite Art Ability shows. Beginning in June of 2017, SEI designated a large space to serve as SEI's Art Ability gallery, allowing employees and visitors to admire and purchase the artwork, with 60 percent of all profits going to the artists, while the remaining 40 percent is donated to Bryn Mawr Rehab Hospital.
"We are excited to participate in this year's Art Ability program, and honored to bring awareness and support to such a worthy cause," said Mark Samuels, Chief Marketing Officer at SEI. "Supporting the arts has been a long-standing part of our company's culture and philanthropic programs, and we view this partnership with Art Ability as a natural extension of those efforts."
SEI's culture is deeply rooted in the arts. Beginning in 1996, SEI's new campus in Oaks featured the first pieces of the West Collection. The West Collection is an emerging-contemporary art collection owned by Alfred P. West, Jr., Chairman and CEO of SEI, and curated by his daughter, Paige West. The artwork, on long-term loan to SEI, is displayed throughout the company's global offices and serves as a cornerstone of SEI's unique culture.
SEI's support of the arts has manifested in a growing number of ways over the company's 50-year evolution. In 2016, SEI announced a three-year partnership with The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA), as the exclusive Presenting Sponsor of the Morris Gallery Exhibition Program. The Arts & Business Council of Greater Philadelphia awarded Al and Paige West the G. Fred Dibona, Jr. Individual Leadership Award in 2016. The award honors those who have distinguished themselves as leaders in the arts, culture or creative sectors. Most notably, in 2013 SEI unveiled the SEI Innovation Studio at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, a 200 seat performance venue, as well as a rotating West Collection artwork display.
