SAVVIS Unveils Comprehensive Managed Security Services Portfolio
Business Editors/Telecommunications Writers
ST. LOUIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 26, 2005--
New Services Suite Integrates Offerings from SAVVIS and Cable &
Wireless America and Sets Value Standard for Securing Network and
Hosting IT Infrastructure
SAVVIS Communications (NASDAQ:SVVS), a leading global IT utility, today announced the launch of a comprehensive portfolio of managed security services. The new offering rationalizes and integrates the considerable combined strengths of SAVVIS' and Cable & Wireless America's security delivery teams, hosting and network capabilities, and consulting services, to deliver the best value and broadest security services portfolio in any hosting and network services company.
In addition, SAVVIS recently announced that it has completed an examination in conformity with Statement on Auditing Standards (SAS) No. 70, Service Organizations documenting that selected SAVVIS processes, procedures, and general controls have been formally reviewed and evaluated. The systems and processes evaluated in this audit include security monitoring, change management, problem management, backup and environmental controls, logical and physical access.
Overall, SAVVIS is bringing to market a portfolio of 16 security products to address the security requirements of its 6,000+ enterprise customers. These products can be broken down into three primary categories:
-- | Dedicated Security Services - a layered combination of industry leading technologies that provide intrusion detection and prevention services, managed network perimeter security, access and authentication, and scanning and analysis services. |
-- | Virtualized Security Services - security solutions that deliver virtualized "on-demand" firewall and intrusion detection for hosted infrastructure, and in-network firewalling for the wide area network. |
-- | Security Consulting Services - a complete set of security and compliance audits, code reviews, common criteria testing, and systems design performed by a team of industry experts. |
"SAVVIS has put together a solid portfolio of security services that stacks up well to offerings from other service providers and telcos, as well as those from dedicated managed security services providers (MSSPs)," said Jason Wright, Industry Analyst and Program Leader of Frost & Sullivan's Security Technologies Practice. "Their proven global IT infrastructure and considerable experience in delivering IT services enables them to deliver an array of managed security services, including some compelling new virtualized offerings, at very competitive prices. In addition, the fact that their carrier class network and hosting infrastructure utilizes the same managed security services that they are selling is a good indicator that they are extremely knowledgeable about those products and services."
SAVVIS first gained prominence delivering IT services to the demanding financial services industry. These customers were attracted to the layers of advanced managed security technologies built into SAVVIS' global private network and hosting infrastructure. SAVVIS' secure private network ensured that all customers gained global protection, including the ability to react to any security event within minutes across the entire network. Now SAVVIS has integrated key elements of the Cable & Wireless security services and expertise into this approach. SAVVIS acquired substantially all of the assets of Cable & Wireless America in March, 2004 including a Tier 1 IP network, long-term leases for 15 data centers, comprehensive consulting services, a substantial Fortune 500 customer base, and a talented employee base.
SAVVIS' comprehensive managed security services offering is backed by a coordinated team of highly skilled security professionals that cover internal security, service delivery operations, professional services, engineering, as well as a chief security office that liaises with government leaders including the U.S. Congress.
The new service portfolio was engineered specifically to address a growing demand for managed security services. This demand is being driven by known internal and external security risks, as well as security challenges associated with government regulations such as the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX), the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA), and other compliance-related directives.
SAVVIS' security solutions date back to 1987 with the founding of ARCA, the first Common Criteria Test Lab (CCTL) for security testing and certification of third-party vendors' products for Federal Government use. It now includes legacy security technologies and services developed by Exodus and Digital Island (both subsequently acquired by Cable & Wireless America), as well as security elements of Intel Online Services (acquired when SAVVIS was chosen as the in-place provider for Intel Online Services).
"We built our reputation by delivering high performance technology services to the financial services industry - primarily real-time market data companies demanding the highest levels of security and 99.999% network availability," said Rob McCormick, Chairman & CEO of SAVVIS. "Cable & Wireless America brought us new security capabilities as well as new customers who stand to benefit from our expanded suite of security products. And because these security services are woven into our network and hosting infrastructure, we can offer all our customers the highest levels of functionality at extremely competitive prices."
According to Gartner Inc, the managed security services sector is among the most rapidly growing in the security industry. Confirming that observation, Frost & Sullivan forecasted that managed security services revenue will total $925 million in 2004, a 41.7 percent increase over 2003, while the Yankee Group estimates that managed security service providers will approach revenues of $2.6 billion by 2005.
