LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 18, 2005--SAVVIS Communications (NASDAQ: SVVS), a leading global IT utility, today detailed its collaboration with HP to provide end-to-end media workflow services for the Sundance Institute and its annual Sundance Film Festival, widely regarded as the premier showcase for independent film.
SAVVIS' Digital Content Services provides an integrated set of services including content and digital rights management, live and on-demand streaming applications, transcoding services, content delivery, and traffic management solutions. These powerful tools enable the media and entertainment industry to deliver digital content to their customers in a flexible, cost-effective manner.
The SAVVIS and HP services have been a key part of the Sundance Institute since last year. Currently SAVVIS and HP are providing the Sundance Institute:

-- SAVVIS' Content Submission and Review Portal combined with HP infrastructure services has served as an official broadband vehicle for the Sundance Online Film Festival (SOFF). At NAB, SAVVIS (booth # SL4259i) will be demonstrating the web-based Content Submission Portal where films that were submitted were hosted on a website to be encoded for final use on the SOFF website.

-- SAVVIS CDN services enabled streaming media production, management and delivery. The solution saved time and money by automating the manual process of submitting master prints.

-- SAVVIS and HP also host the Sundance Film Festival website www.sundance.org dedicated to the development of artists of independent vision and the exhibition of their new work. The site is a popular vehicle for providing information on all of the Institute's programs including online services for the Sundance Film Festival. SAVVIS provided redundant fail over protection, which guarantees reliable backup and data recovery, as well as load-balancing services that will enable Sundance to distribute traffic evenly, maximizing the efficiency of the highly-trafficked website.

"The Sundance Institute is interested in identifying new technologies that enable end-to-end workflow processes for the Sundance Film Festival and the extension platform of the Sundance Online Film Festival. Not only did our collaboration with SAVVIS explore new delivery methods, it also lowered our costs," said Joseph Beyer, Manager of the Sundance Online Film Festival. "The SAVVIS - HP Content Submission Portal and Streaming CDN is an excellent example of new technologies and services coming together to solve age old media workflow challenges. As the media & entertainment industry continues to evolve, new services like these will continue to simplify the control and management of content for media and entertainment companies worldwide."
"The Sundance Institute is the most vital influence behind the independent film industry worldwide," said Nathan Kerry, Vice President & General Manager, Media & Entertainment, for SAVVIS. "SAVVIS is honored to provide our Digital Content services to the Sundance Film Festival and their global web presence, and we are also pleased to further our partnership with HP and our commitment to jointly bring a new level of technological excellence to the media and entertainment industry."
The agreement is another example in a long relationship between SAVVIS and HP through which the two companies are developing next-generation media services. HP is already well known in media and entertainment, while SAVVIS is rapidly becoming recognized for developing advanced network-based, managed utility services for the media and entertainment industry. Other HP and SAVVIS joint projects include the International Emmys, where SAVVIS' global network enabled the secure, high performance online distribution of full motion video of all the entries for viewing by 500 judges located around the world. With this solution, the Academy avoided the time and expense of producing and shipping hundreds of tapes in multiple formats to locations around the world.
"SAVVIS Digital Content Services help companies make, manage and move their digital media," said Brent Roland, Director of Business Development, Office of Strategy and Technology, HP. "The combination of HP's software and infrastructure technology and SAVVIS' services streamline workflow, enhance collaboration, and increase productivity, while protecting and preserving valuable digital media. Subscribing to these services provides access to thousands of media companies, broadcasters, agencies, production and post production houses, producers of film, radio, TV, music and games, CD/DVD replicators and other creative professionals already on the SAVVIS Content Exchange."
