SAVVIS Launches WAM!NET Review Studio Service; Digital Content Service
Business Editors/Technology Writers
NAB2005
ST. LOUIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 13, 2005--SAVVIS Communications (NASDAQ:SVVS), a leading global IT utility, today announced a new addition to their Digital Content Services portfolio. WAM!NET Review Studio(SM) is a new service that builds on the WAM!NET Direct!(SM) and Content Studio(SM) content management and distribution services. It removes the need to create and distribute physical copies of pre-released music and movies, thereby eliminating the risk of piracy. Review Studio securely distributes the digital content via the Internet while providing a flexible and robust set of content access controls.
SAVVIS will be demonstrating WAM!NET Review Studio next week at the National Association of Broadcasters Expo (NAB) at the Las Vegas Convention Center (booth # SL4259i).
WAM!NET Review Studio provides web-based content delivery via uploads in to WAM!NET Content Studio and automates distribution via emails containing links to secured web pages. Two of the world's leading music companies helped to develop the service and it has proven to be a valuable tool for distributing content to their remote users. Unlike similar services that require dedicated hardware and expensive software licenses, the WAM!NET Review Studio is a low cost, monthly subscription-based service.
"The Review Studio service enhances the security of the most valuable assets any media company owns at a time when those assets are most at risk, prior to their official release," said Richard Metcalf, General Manager, Digital Content Services, for SAVVIS. "This new service demonstrates how SAVVIS continuously leads the market in application services related to the creation, management and distribution of digital content across industries and vertical segments. There are product companies pitching the same ideas, but what they are selling is boxes -- not a service platform, as SAVVIS is delivering, that eliminates the technical complexity that so often hinders creative organizations."
SAVVIS Digital Content Services enable companies ranging from the world's largest media producers to small independent producers to deliver digital content rapidly, reliably and cost-effectively. Another recent addition to SAVVIS' broad range of services are Content Delivery Services (formerly Cable & Wireless/Digital Island CDN) that provide high capacity hosting, content delivery, streaming media production and delivery, traffic management and global load balancing, that supports global enterprises needing to connect with millions of customers.
The WAM!NET Review Studio launch follows the integration of a valuable set of complementary media services assets that SAVVIS has acquired over the last 18 months. These include:
-- | The acquisition and integration of dynamic transfer mode (DTM) equipment and video transport services, providing real-time and high-speed content services to major broadcasters and news providers such as ABC News and MSNBC News. |
-- | The acquisition of the commercial assets of WAM!NET, a leading global provider of content management and distribution services, whose customers include Universal Music Group, Time Warner, and Sony Pictures. |
-- | The acquisition of the assets of Cable & Wireless America which, in addition to the world's second largest Content Delivery Network CDN, included a tier-1 IP network, 3,000 enterprise customers, 15 world class data centers, and a complete range of hosting, professional services, and network solutions. |
-- | SAVVIS is also closely aligned with HP and their Digital Media Platform which combines production technologies, workflow and collaboration tools, and a community of interest network that includes thousands of media companies, broadcasters, production and postproduction houses, television, film and radio producers, CD/DVD replicators and other creative professionals. |
Now, having fully integrated these complementary assets, SAVVIS is focused on delivering a wide range of managed utility services that enable enterprises of all types -- including those in the media/entertainment sector -- to reach end-users seamlessly and efficiently, while reducing overall operational costs.
SAVVIS' focus on facilitating the seamless integration of content contribution, management and distribution services is supported by overall trends in the communications sector. Leading analyst group IDC forecasts that U.S. content management service spending will increase to $4.5 billion by 2007, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 12.1%. Content management operations remain the fastest growing segment of content management services, projected to grow at 19.2% over the forecast period in the United States to reach $1.2 billion in 2007.
