Safeway Inc. Names Joseph Ennen Senior Vice President, Consumer Brands
Safeway Inc. announced today the appointment of Joseph Ennen as Senior Vice President Consumer Brands. He will oversee the company’s corporate brands organization including its marketing, finance and outside sales function.
Mr. Ennen comes to Safeway after four years at the Frito-Lay Division of PepsiCo, first as Vice President, Core Brands where he managed the Doritos, Tostitos and Cheetos lines, and most recently Group Vice President, Innovation. In that capacity, he was responsible for leading the entire innovation development cycle for Frito Lay North America from identifying strategic opportunities to product launch. He holds a B.S. degree in Finance from the University of Minnesota. Upon getting his MBA from the University of Michigan, he joined the Kellogg Company where, over seven years, he held various senior marketing positions in the U.S. and the U.K. In 1999, he took a position with Con Agra Foods as Vice President/General Manager for Healthy Choice, that company’s largest brand. Mr. Ennen spent his early career in finance at General Mills.
"Joe’s extensive CPG experience and track record as a marketer and innovator make him uniquely suited to lead Safeway’s consumer brands business,” said Mike Minasi, Safeway’s President of Marketing.

The company operates 1,739 stores in the United States and Canada and had annual sales of $44.1 billion in 2008. The company’s common stock is traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol SWY.
