Rejlers: Consortium Wins Contract for Four-Track Flackarp – Arlöv Route

Regulatory News:

Rejlers (STO:REJL)

In order to cope with the increase in train traffic on Sweden’s southern main line, a consortium consisting of Rejlers, Faveo and WSP has been tasked by the Swedish Transport Administration to produce tender documents for a turnkey contract for the Flackarp – Arlöv route. The assignment also includes resourcing the purchaser organisation, completed investigations and construction site monitoring.

The Lund – Malmö route cannot cope with any further increase in train traffic during peak hours. In recent years, traffic has increased considerably, particularly due to more regional passenger trains, but the number of long-distance passenger trains and goods trains has also increased. In addition to more trains, the trains themselves have also increased in length due to multiple couplings. Currently around 460 passenger and goods trains use the route each day. By 2030, that number is expected to rise to around 650.

The project places great demands on collaboration. Rejlers, in consortium with Faveo and WSP, will take full responsibility for the project, including resourcing of the purchaser organisation and construction site monitoring. The consortium will supply the local and major competences within railway engineering, land, construction work and project management.

"Our mission is to produce tender documents for the turnkey contract, carry out investigations and provide technical resources within all areas. Four tracks, new stations and refurbishment of adjacent lines and roads between Flackarp and Arlöv will increase capacity on the southern main line, but will also reduce noise pollution along the railway,” says Mats Lundström, Regional Manager, Rejlers Sverige.

The Flackarp-Arlöv contract covers the southern main line and also includes supplementing the existing railway facilities with two new tracks. The current down track will be upgraded on the sections not affected by the new track geometry, while construction of other sections will involve a new track.

The contract is worth more than MSEK 100 for the consortium and will be completed in December 2023.

Footnote: The southern main line between Malmö and Stockholm is one of Sweden’s most important railway connections. It passes through Hässleholm, Nässjö, Linköping and Norrköping, among other places. (trafikverket.se)
