Quovadx to Present Strategies for Standards-Based Interoperability in a Service Oriented Architecture

Quovadx, Inc. (Nasdaq: QVDX), a global software and vertical solutions company, today announced its participation in the upcoming Healthcare Information Management Systems Society Annual Conference and Exhibition (HIMSS 2007). As part of the company’s activities at the conference, Rey Currie, vice president of product management, Quovadx, will present strategies for leveraging legacy applications to support standards-based interoperability in a web services environment. Quovadx will also host a series of events during the course of the conference. HIMSS 2007 will be held at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, Louisiana from February 25-March 1, 2007. Rey Currie’s presentation, entitled "Leveraging Legacy Applications to Enable IHE Document Sharing within a Service Oriented Architecture,” will highlight best practices in using the Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) framework for healthcare interoperability to facilitate document sharing across the enterprise. Further, Mr. Currie will cover the promise of utilizing service oriented architecture (SOA) in the healthcare enterprise and solutions integrating legacy applications and IHE within a SOA environment. "Healthcare organizations are facing many hurdles to embracing SOA such as a high number of legacy applications that are not SOA ready,” said Rey Currie, vice president of product management, Quovadx. "By using IHE’s framework for healthcare interoperability, and non-invasive solutions to connect legacy applications and implement IHE profiles within a SOA environment, such as Cloverleaf® Integration Suite, healthcare organizations can increase their ability to exchange documents within and outside their four walls to increase efficiency and improve patient care.” In the course of the presentation, attention will be placed on the value of IHE’s framework for healthcare interoperability in improving the quality and efficiency of care and providing a framework for universal data access between healthcare organizations and functions. Further, SOA and web services will be examined in context of facilitating the creation of new user functionality by mixing and matching established applications, components from newer applications and internally developed code. In addition to Mr. Currie’s presentation, Quovadx will be hosting several other programs during HIMSS 2007: Healthcare Executive Dinner & Networking Event – Quovadx, in collaboration with Intel, will host an interactive dinner for healthcare executives featuring formal remarks from Newt Gingrich, former Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives and Founder of the Center for Health Transformation. Mr. Gingrich will share his insight and experience with health providers across the country that are embracing interoperability solutions, and as a result, are improving patient safety and quality of care, and reducing costs. Breakfast Forums The Value of Patient Medication History at the Point-of-Care - Quovadx will team with RxHub to host a breakfast forum on the impact of patient medication history at the point-of-care. This breakfast session, lead by Ken Majkowski, PharmD, vice president, clinical affairs, RxHub, and Jerry Rankin, director of health information network initiatives for Quovadx, will discuss the Joint Commission’s patient safety requirements for medication reconciliation, discuss pilot projects and case studies and introduce an automated approach to accessing accurate and detailed medication history at point-of-care. Transforming Healthcare for Payers & Providers - Infosys and Quovadx will discuss how organizations can focus on helping organizations transform disparate data networks into a congruent source of information enabling patient-centric data transparency. During the discussion, the two organizations will share their experience as partners and individually in helping healthcare organizations to standardize how health information is managed. Clinical Interoperability Partner Panel – This 30-minute panel discussion will feature speakers from RxHub, Infosys and 3M Health Information Systems, and will provide insight as to how HIT’s organization can use Cloverleaf® health interoperability software and services to extend the interoperability reach of their products to their customers and partners, connect to additional data sources, such as pharmacy and lab data and act as a data source and intermediary for other data consuming applications, governing bodies and business partner systems, including RHIO participation. Terminology Standardization for Clinical Interoperability - Jerry Rankin, director of health information network initiatives for Quovadx, will join Kasey Poon, M.D. and Medical Informaticist for the Healthcare Data Dictionary Group of 3M Health Information Systems in a discussion of terminology and coding in the industry today. The session will cover who would use standard terminologies including why and how, current deployment and capabilities. Clinical Engineering and IT Leadership Forum - Leslie Kelly Hall, director of technology consulting at HDR, and Tony Caruso of Duke University Health System will address the importance of strategic planning of new medical technologies and the importance of facilitating interoperability solutions as part of the IHE initiative to the safety and efficacy of the healthcare environment.
