Philips Electronics Welcomes Celebrities to Park City with Innovative
Business Editors
PARK CITY, Utah--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 19, 2005--For the second consecutive year, Philips Electronics will host the entertainment industry's brightest stars and aspiring artists at the Village at the Lift in Park City, Utah. Philips' Welcome Lounge is the place for festival attendees to relax and take some time out from their hectic schedules, while giving them the opportunity to interact with Philips latest innovations from 42" Flatscreen TVs with Ambilight(TM) technology to the new Sonicare IntelliClean power toothbrush System.
While at the lounge, visitors will have the opportunity to interact with a full array of Philips technologies from its domestic appliances, lighting, consumer electronics, medical and semiconductor businesses. In addition, for the first time ever, Philips will unveil some breathtaking future technologies from its research division that clearly illustrate how technology can be advanced and simple to use at the same time - a concept that is at the heart of where the PHILIPS brand is going.
"Philips is helping simplify technology in order to enhance consumers' lives through advanced, easy-to-use and well designed innovative solutions," said Paul Zeven, CEO of Philips Electronics North America. "Philips' Welcome Lounge at the Village at the Lift is a haven for celebrities, VIPs and media to rest, relax and interact with our newest technology solutions. The innovations they adopt early on eventually become the standard in people's homes and elsewhere."
Launching at this year's Festival is the unique Glowing Places seating created by Philips Design and the Helen Hamlyn Research Centre. The plastic seating, embedded with LED (light-emitting diode) strips and sensors, uses interactive lighting design to respond to people's presence over time. Both the number of people sitting and the length of time they stay create a social interactive pattern that is translated by patented software into lighting effects in the furniture.
Philips will enhance the interactive product experience for Festival attendees with its Near Field Communications (NFC) and Streamium demonstrations which allow celebrities to enjoy the future of transferring content via cell phones. Demos will feature posters of select films that include NFC technology to demonstrate the easy and quick access, purchase and then short-range transfer of content onto a Streamium television. Consumers will be able to flash a NFC mobile phone near the poster to download information about the film, stars, etc. and then stream it through Streamium to display on TV.
Intuitive Connected Home, another innovative technology solution Philips will highlight at the Festival, showcases the connected home in 3-5 years through intuitive interactions across devices and integrated Philips technologies. With this technology, consumers will have the freedom to enjoy their favorite digital content or access to services and information where and when they want. This connectivity - both wired and wireless - to PCs and home entertainment systems enables access to content in a simple and convenient way throughout the home environment.
Last year, Philips' KEY007 Digital Camera Key Ring, a 2.0 mega pixel digital camera and MP3 player, was dubbed the "hottest accessory at Sundance" by attending stars and media. This year, celebrities will enjoy the Philips 128MB GoGear(TM) Digital Camcorder which allows consumers to just point and shoot - and capture 25 minutes of MPEG4 video or snap 200 2.0 Megapixel pictures. Other Philips' products will be showcased throughout The Village at the Lift including Fred Segal Spa, The Heineken Green Room and The Yahoo Cafe. These venues will highlight Philips' latest technologies including the Sonicare(R) IntelliClean toothbrush, Moi for Me(TM) lady shaver, HomeLight Cool White light bulbs and 42" Flatscreen TVs with Ambilight technology.
In addition to highlighting the latest company innovations during the Festival, Philips will sponsor the after party for "The Upside of Anger," starring Kevin Costner and Joan Allen on Saturday, January 22 and "The Chumbscrubber" starring Rita Wilson, Carrie-Anne Moss and Glenn Close on Tuesday, January 25.
