Philips Demonstrates GEMINI PET/CT System Enhancements at Molecular Imaging Meeting; Upgrades Enable Unparalleled Level of Imaging Performance

    ORLANDO, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 18, 2005--Royal Philips Electronics (NYSE:PHG)(AEX:PHI) announced today several enhancements for its GEMINI PET/CT systems at the Academy of Molecular Imaging (AMI) annual conference, March 18-23, in Orlando, Fla. The product upgrades are designed to improve patient throughput, enhance ease of use and expand the range of imaging procedures physicians can perform on the GEMINI. In addition to the recent launch of GEMINI GXL, these upgrades continue to position Philips as the leading provider of advanced hybrid imaging systems.
    Philips GEMINI PET/CT family of products delivers exceptional image quality and is the world's only open PET/CT scanners. GEMINI's unique OpenView gantry is designed for patient comfort and safety, as well as easy access and imaging flexibility for clinicians. The systems offer unique imaging features such as full 3D PET acquisition and reconstruction to detect small lesions, and 190 cm scan length for both PET and CT to enable true whole body imaging (head-to-toe) in one scan for patients of all sizes.
    At this year's AMI meeting, Philips is announcing several enhancements to its GEMINI 16 Power and GEMINI Dual systems, including:

-- A new cardiac review and analysis package to facilitate faster diagnosis

-- List mode acquisition and data management tools to meet research needs

-- Gated acquisition for cardiac and respiratory applications and research

-- New DICOM connectivity features for improved communication with PACS, HIS/RIS and Radiation Therapy Planning systems

-- Fast 3D RAMLA PET reconstruction for improved throughput

    Currently available on GEMINI 16 Power, these enhancements will also be available on GEMINI Dual later this year. Philips also recently released other enhancements for GEMINI Dual, including an integrated PET/CT acquisition user interface for improved acquisition workflow, and advanced CT features to expand the range of clinical applications.
